Williams Drops Season-High 21 for Chargers in Win to Close Regular Season

DES PLAINES — Matt Williams (Peoria, Ill./Notre Dame) led all players with a season-high 21 points as the Carl Sandburg College men’s basketball team finished out the regular season with a 78-63 win Saturday afternoon at Oakton.

The victory came a day after the Chargers (15-14 overall, 2-7 Arrowhead Conference) ended their conference schedule with a 78-56 loss at Sauk Valley.

Williams paced the Chargers on Saturday against the Owls, scoring 10 in the first half to help Sandburg to a 46-35 lead at the break. Williams’ 21 points surpassed his previous season-best of 20 on Feb. 5 against McHenry County.

Freshman Eric Price (Galesburg, Ill./Galesburg) added 13 points for the Chargers, and sophomore Griffin Ronnebeck (East Moline, Ill./United Township) had 12 on the strength of four 3-pointers, with three of those coming in the first half. Atem Agot (East Moline, Ill./United Township) hit a pair of 3s and finished with 10 points for Sandburg.
